NY Real Estate Continuing Education: What’s Required and When It’s Due

July 20, 2026  |  Uncategorized

Every licensed real estate salesperson and broker in New York is required to complete continuing education before each license renewal. Here’s exactly what’s required and how to stay on track.

The Requirements

22.5 hours of approved continuing education per two-year renewal cycle. The required breakdown: 3 hours of fair housing and/or discrimination, 1 hour of law of agency, 2.5 hours of ethical business practices, 1 hour of recent legal matters, 3 hours of instruction related to the use of technology including cybersecurity, and 11 hours of approved elective topics. Brokers must include 3 hours on fair housing/discrimination plus additional broker-specific topics.

When Is It Due

New York licenses expire on a two-year cycle, and continuing education must be completed before the renewal date. CE hours must be completed BEFORE you submit your renewal — the DOS will not renew a license with outstanding CE requirements. Check your renewal date in your DOS license portal and work backwards: complete your hours at least 30 days before expiration to avoid any processing delays.

Online vs. Live CE

Both are approved. Online CE is flexible and can be completed any time. Live CE — classroom or Zoom — counts toward the same requirements. Main St Success offers all 22.5 hours online as well as live class options on Long Island.

Complete your CE at mainstsuccess.com — approved by the NYS DOS.
